How to Start a Business Online From Scratch

I’ve been studying the online world for nearly a year now and I’ve discovered the way a lot of people want to get started online is something akin to a dream.

These are the five basic ideas (or any combination of these) that newbies online are hoping for when looking for an online business by which to strike it rich.

*You don’t have to do anything and will be up and running in a day.

*Provides a guarantee to earn quickly.

*All the marketing is done for you so you don’t need to lift a finger.

*Teaches you all the marketing secrets that only a special few know.

*And maybe the system or program even gives you a couple of mentors that are at your beck and call.

Most people seeking an online business don’t have the time, energy or desire to learn all that is required to know and do to build a successful online business. But rather, most just want to start a business online from scratch as soon as possible.

Does This Dream Exist? Yes and No

I’ve read and viewed countless hours of training and have attempted a number of different approaches to marketing online. And what most people want just does not exist unless, of course, you are willing to pay for it. Then you can gain access to a lot that is otherwise not available.

The fact is though, that most people want their cake and they want to eat it – expecting to pay .95 or .95 or or maybe even several hundred dollars and then believing this is all they need to spend to build the business as outlined above.

The headlines for these offers suck folks in and the copy writing captures the mind, dulls the senses and ‘zap – another sale – another online business “pseudo owner” has been made.

The Truth is it is Both Time and Money

When attempting to start a business online from scratch you will either need to pay your dues in time or in money. It really is that simple. Don’t expect to get around this law of business just because the emotional content written in the capture page is so compelling.

In most cases an entrepreneur spends months building his / her website with great content, begins to brand on You Tube, writes articles and begins building a list of potential customers before even promoting a product or service.

Many folks, though, simply do not want to get so involved and be so committed but are rather looking for a simple business model so they can start fairly easily.

Many online entrepreneurs don’t even generate enough income to live on for quite a number of months. In my case I suppose I inherently understood that business building is not an overnight process but rather a timely, building process.

Now, of course, I’ve discovered the earn as you learn methods of progressing but at the time I was personally focused just on the learning and laying the foundation.

You see, the key to any online business is marketing and advertising, or in my old line of business – using good salespeople to do one-on-one sales.

No matter what business one is building, it is essential to develop a consistent way of bringing new prospects and clients through the door. Online, of course, “the door” is much broader and the market is the entire world.

So, spending both time and money is part of the formula for success online but finding the proper balance is the real secret to a profitable venture. Practically speaking, however, it is a balanced combination of time and money that will bring success.

So What is One to Do?

The reality for those desiring to start a business online is this: You do not necessarily need to go through the same laborious effort as many of us have because there are mentoring programs designed to cut your learning curve. Just realize these are the facts – basically we pay our way in with sweat equity and money.

So, if your desire is to start a business online from scratch using your sweat equity or to build using your capital resources you have a choice but ultimately it will be a combination of these that will build your business quickly and successfully.

Find a great business concept, team up with a leader in the industry for training and mentoring and do whatever it takes because it really is all worth it in the end.

Online Business Internet Marketing Computer

Those seeking to build an online business using internet marketing computer strategies should begin with a specific end goal in mind. And that end goal should be the complete (or complete as possible) automation of your online business. There are indeed some internet marketing computer strategies one can employ that require less work and generate somewhat equal results in the short term, but you should be planning for the long-term; and long-term success requires content rich sites with a long list of subscribers.

Let’s look at two examples of online business internet marketing computer strategies. Both will use affiliate marketing and both will generate roughly the same amount of money, but one will require less work.

The first method is one that requires less work: writing articles to promote a product through an affiliate program. The articles are distributed to different directories and provide a link either directly to the product’s website or automatically redirect people to the product’s website from one’s own domain.

The second method also uses article marketing in the same manner, except the articles link back to a website or blog with a lot of unique and relevant content, as well as an opt-in form that builds a subscriber list. Online Business Internet Marketing Computer

So, the second method clearly requires more work than the first method, but both are essentially promoting the same product and will essentially make the same amount of money. In fact, the first method may even make more money initially because the customers do not have to go through a series of complicated steps to reach the affiliate product’s website.

But don’t be fooled by the ease of the first method. Sure, it will make money and can be useful. But over time the usefulness and search engine popularity of your articles will wither away, leaving you only a limited period of time from which to profit. You would then be required to re-do the article writing process all over again for the same product or other products.

If you would have taken the second method, you would have built up a long list of subscribers to whom you can easily offer affiliate links, as well sell your own products to. Your website will also last a much longer time, with a lot more content. And your content-rich website will develop a community which you can continue to profit from over the long-term. Eventually this kind of situation becomes self-sustaining and automatic, requiring very little time.

Therefore, the situation at the beginning of the process seems to have reversed itself. The person using the first method will have to start another round of article writing to generate his revenue stream all over again. But the person that built the content-rich website developed a community around a large amount of relevant content that provides him a foundation from which he or she can easily promote new products with little work. The What, Why and How of Business Blogs?

Blog is short for Web Log or Weblog and the Blogosphere is the online blog world, some parts of which are hyperlinked extensively to each other.

This is the Wikipedia definition: Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal (or newsletter) that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site.

I recommend that you read lots of people’s blogs to learn what blogs are. Go to your favorite search engine and type in the word ‘blog’ and the subject you’re interested in. For example, ‘web design blog’, or ‘blog music’, or ‘sports blog’. You’ll find lots of blogs that way.

Blogs have become a way in which regular, non-technical people can post information to the Web as easily as they can access it.

Why Are Blogs So Important?

Well, they’re not that important, yet. But they could be soon, and most likely will be. In fact, some would argue that they are already vital in today’s Web business world. I am not ready to agree to that yet, but it is becoming more obvious to me over time that blogs can no longer be ignored in business.

Online businesses can benefit from blogging by taking advantage of a vehicle for easily posting new, original, and business-related content on a regular basis.

Here Are Some More Business Benefits Of Blogging:

* Blogs help to position you and/or your company as experts and leaders in your industry.

* They’re interactive in nature. At the end of each blog entry is usually a link that allows anyone to add their own comments to your blog entries. This allows your customers and potential customers to make comments about your products or services or ask you questions to help them in their buying process.

* Blogs are marketed easily and quickly by their RSS feeds.

* Blogs allow you to stress your choice of products, services, relevant news stories, quotes, pictures and more with your audience, customers and potential customers.

* People are generous with adding links to your blog if the content is good, especially within their own blogs. More links means more traffic and better search engine rankings.

Here Are Some Ways In Which You Can Make Revenue From Your Blog:

1. Selling advertisements. Whether you use banners or text links, if your site draws a regular audience interested in your blog topics or theme, try to offer ad space to organizations that are looking to market to your audience. In fact, if your blogs becomes really popular then advertisers will call you.

2. Offering Google’s AdSense. Google’s website explains, “Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website’s content pages and earn money.” Learn more about AdSense.

3. Affiliate Programs. Affiliate programs allow Web sites that provide links to your site to receive payments or reciprocal advertising in exchange for promoting your Web site. In the case of blogging, this is reversed, where you post links within your blog, and collect money from the owners of those links when they result in a click-through and sale.

Here Are Some Websites Where You Can Get Your Blog Listed:

* BlogWise – http://www.blogwise.com

First you need to get blogging software. You can choose to create a blog that is housed on another site  (which is a blog service) or you can host it on your own Web server. I recommend the latter since the links that are developed by others pointing to your blog won’t be counted in the search engines. This is because the links are attributed to domains, so a link to gives a link credit to blogger.com and not your domain.

If your blog is a business blog, you really ought to host your own blog as opposed to using a blog service. You’ll need the extra functionality and control.

If you plan on hosting your own blog and if you plan to use a UNIX Web server platform, then you need to go with blogging software such as Movable Type, for example. If you have a Microsoft Web server platform for your site, then you’ll need software such as BetaParticle blog. Here is a great list of various blog software: Next you’ll need a database to hook your blog up to. The database is what stores the blog entries, among other things. If you don’t know if you have a database on or connected to your website server, or if you don’t know how to hook up your blog to your database, contact your host company or Web server administrator for help.

Once you have the blog set up on your domain (for example  and you’ve hooked it up to a live database, you can start blogging. Generally, each entry is also a day. So you can write a new entry every day, or whenever you want, and that entry will show up on the blog at the top, moving older entries below.

You ought to think of a theme for your blog. In other words, your blog could be about your personal experiences in the industry you’re in. It could be about your company’s product reviews, or new services. It could be about your thoughts and opinions about issues related to your industry. It could be a place where you regularly find and list new resources to help others in your industry. The list is endless. But be sure to stick to a theme and be original. You want to offer something of value to your website visitors.

Sticking to a theme helps you position yourself for future advertisers and also makes for better reading for your visitors. Furthermore, you want to give a good impression with your blog with each and every entry if you want it to augment your online business. Finally, sticking to a theme helps with the search engines since it’s believed that engines determine website themes and use this information for ranking.

Of course your blog could be about personal things too. Many blogs are just that, an online journal. But since we’re interested in Web business here, I am discussing business blogs only.

What’s great is that blogs get indexed easily and quickly by search engines. Each entry is another “page” that can be potentially listed in Google for example, which will drive more traffic to your site.

Another neat thing about running a blog once it’s set up is that you do not need to be technical at all to make regular entries. This is helpful if you want to delegate the writing to someone else, since technical skills won’t be a prerequisite. This allows you to have the most qualified person regarding the blog’s theme and, hopefully the best writer, actually making the entries.

Be creative. Add images to your blog entries to spice things up a bit. Although blogging can be lonely, keep at it. Sometimes it seems like you’re just writing new entries each day for yourself only. It may be a while before someone chooses to add a comment to one of your entries. You may not hear from anyone for a long time. But that doesn’t mean people aren’t reading it. In fact, check your website statistics to see just how many people are visiting your new blog. As you add more entries, get your blog listed on other sites and market your blog. It will build, and eventually you’ll have a nice following of engaged readers.

Most importantly, be sure to pepper your entries with calls to action. For example, if your business blog is attached to your travel website and the blog’s theme is traveling and finding great travel deals all over the world, make sure you add a link to an entry that points people to a travel special you’re running on your website. What would be even better is a blog entry about the fantastic vacation you took to Hawaii and included at the end was a link to cheap Hawaii vacation deals on your website.

Understand Social Networks Better for Effective Business Promotion

Social networking is a big buzz in today’s world of Internet marketers. Social networking can be said to be virtually started (introduced) by My Space and facebook. Today, these two giant social networking websites are the ones most visited by people. Many of the Internet marketers have found charming opportunities to market their products through these social networking websites. Though all the members of these social networking websites are not targeted, many of the Internet marketers consider this as an effective means to get more free exposure to their business.

There are many social networking websites that are emerging each and every month. TalkMoola.com, Zenzuu, Friendswin, Yuwie, and Wowzza are some of them launched recently. With all these social networking websites, Internet marketers have a wide source to promote their business. However, many of the Internet marketers complain that social networking is a complete waste of time and they didn’t find gain out of it. It is because not all network marketers have caught on to the power of social networking yet or how to properly use social networking to explode their businesses. But the ability to further expose themselves and their business to other like-minded people is extremely valuable and profitable for most.

The most important fact about social networking websites is that all social networks that are created are not equal. Social networks differ in many ways. It is up to you to choose the best social network that suits your business promotional needs.

Look for Social networks with similar interests

Before signing up with any social networking website for business promotion, you should make sure that the network has people who would be interested in what you have to offer, or are like-minded to you. For example, if you are trying to promote your business of electronic goods online, then you should look for social networking websites with related communities and forums. If you try to promote your electronic product in a social network that includes members looking for a date or love, it would be a complete waste of time.

Active involvement is essential

This can be achieved by accepting all the friend invitations within the social network and searching for like-minded people in the community and adding them as friends. Active involvement in social networks is essential for effective business promotion. Regular forum participations, blog postings and messaging to friends are some kinda active involvement. While promoting a business in a social network, bulk messaging is a facility to look for.  Some social networks limit the amount of people you are able to send a message to at once. On the other hand, some social networks will let you add unlimited friends and you can send them a bulletin or message to all your friends at once anytime with ease. This is what you should be looking for.

Create your own social networking website

It’s always good to create your own social networking website for promoting your business. Creating your own social networking website will be beneficial than promoting your business in other social networks.  This will help you to strengthen the customer-supplier relationship and also helps you to identify your customer needs. Designing a social networking website is just a breeze today. Professional social network web designers can help you design unique social networking websites to grab more audience.
